A leaking kitchen sink can become a serious plumbing concern, especially when aging shutoff valves fail. During a recent Plumbing project in Justice, IL, our experienced technicians replaced damaged water supply valves to restore reliable water flow and eliminate the leak beneath the kitchen sink.
The homeowner discovered a leak beneath the kitchen sink about three years earlier and shut off the water supply.
During our inspection, our plumber discovered that the old gate valve controlling the cold water supply had blown apart. This damaged valve prevented the homeowner from safely restoring water to the kitchen sink.
Older gate valves can deteriorate over time, making them difficult to operate and more susceptible to leaks or mechanical failure.
To resolve the problem, our plumbing technician removed the faulty valve connections and installed two new quarter-turn ball valves for the kitchen sink’s hot and cold water supply lines.
Quarter-turn ball valves provide a convenient and reliable way to control water flow. Unlike traditional gate valves, they require only a 90-degree turn to fully open or close, making it easier to shut off water quickly when maintenance or repairs are needed.
After installing the new shutoff valves, our plumber restored the home’s water supply and carefully inspected the piping and connections.
Testing confirmed no further leaks in the piping, allowing the homeowner to use the kitchen plumbing without the previous concern.
Replacing worn or damaged shutoff valves is an important part of maintaining a dependable plumbing system. Addressing these issues can help prevent water damage and make future plumbing maintenance easier.
